The Svedberg seminarium

David Cesarini is an associate professor in Economics at New York University and a co-founder of the Social Science Genetic Association Consortium (SSGAC), which seeks to bring cutting-edge methods from medical genomics into social-science genomics. Through the SSGAC, he has been involved in efforts to discovery genetic associations with a wide range of behavioral traits. He received a Ph.D. in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Multi-Trait Analysis of GWAS Summary Statistics

We introduce an approach, Multi-Trait Analysis of GWAS (MTAG), for multivariate meta-analysis of GWAS summary statistics for different phenotypes, possibly with overlapping samples. We apply the method to GWAS summary statistics from meta-analyses of three phenotypes: depressive symptoms (N = 355K), neuroticism (N = 168K), and subjective well-being (N = 388 K). For each of these traits, application of MTAG increases the number of genome-wide significant loci by a factor of 3 to 4 (e.g. from 12 loci in our GWAS of subjective-wellbeing to 48 loci after joint analysis). In our application, polygenic scores generated from the MTAG results increase prediction accuracy by roughly 20%.

The Svedberg seminarierna
